Re: New VHSL reallignment in 07

I don't know where some of you guys are getting that Appy and Kelly would play VA High and John Battle. According to the document that Hugh_Jass posted the link to, the proposed reallignment would be:

    Lonesome Pine East
    John Battle
    Clintwood
    Coeburn
    Lebanon
    Pound
    Virginia

    Lonesome Pine West
    Appalachia
    Burton, J. I.
    Gate City
    Kelly, J. J.
    Lee
    Powell Valley

It looks great to me. It preserves all the traditional rivalries (Clintwood-Pound, Appy-Burton, Appy-PV, & PV-Gate City) and would make most sports, especially football, pretty competitive. But it does seem unfair that the larger schools would be dropped to single A status. Let them be in the same district? Sure. Let them in on single A playoffs and post season honors? No way.

I think the thing that bothers me most is the fact that Lee due to the fact they are a geographic anomaly, gets Single A status with 840 students while most of the schools in District II (Old SW/Highlands) of AA has less students. Lee has more students than 20 schools sanctioned AA by this proposal.

Think about this, Lee vs. Pocahontas in anything. You have a difference of 700+ students enrolled in that school.

This a great idea, and something that I hope passes. I believe Clintwood would have a shot at winning the LPD East most years.

Keeping PV and GC together ensures that both of those teams would not dominate year in and year out. I'm sure the one that didn't win the LPD West would still qualify for the playoffs. This model would really even things out.

This is as good as the 4A model in my opinion. Let's all hope it passes

Lee is the only school that is AA size and unless I miss my guess the LPD West would become a Mixed distric in which Lee could not advance in the A Playoffs.

Va High is already A size 1 thinK them droping into the reagion D would do is push Haysi and Clintwood to Div 1 status Appy/Burton would not be in any more of a disadvantage than they are in right now (Both have played Lee in all sports on a preatty regular basis)

Reagion D Baseball would be a huge force with Va.High and Battle joining Reagion D

LPD East would have some super nice Basketball Facilitys with Va High and Lebanon added to Clintwood (Not overly nice but better than most) and Coburn (assumeing that they get there new Gym)

I know but VA High would roll with in the championships, but overall yeah I'm pretty sure that this would be the toughest region to play in on the diamond

beating VA high is not an impossibility.
We (PHS) beat them a few times in the 90's, We (PHS) use to play a home and away series, We handed them one of only 3 or 4 loses in 96 I believe. The old Pepsi invite use to have some good baseball in it.

I didn't say they were impossible to beat just said that they'd fair better than the rest of the teams overall

I would say Battle and VHS will want to remain where they are at. Lebanon may or may not have a problem with being in the LPD, I think just as long as they don't have to join the Black Diamond, they will be happy anywhere else.

VHSL will have to go somewhere if the Highlands Distric breaks up.

Lebanon and Battle are the two closest Hogo opponents that VaHigh would have had if they moved to the Hogo Coburn is not a bad drive either and both Clintwood and Pound would be closer than the teams from the SWD if they were to choose to join it. Lebanon does not want to be part of the Blake Dimond and this new distric would be a great fit. I have no clue on how Battle feels about this proposal.
